Squires Elementary, which opened in August 1988, was recognized as a Pacesetter school by the Kentucky Department of Education after the release of the KIRIS scores for the second biennium. Squires is also a member of the National Alliance for Restructuring Education, which is one of seven funded by the New American Schools Development Cooperation and GOALS 2000. Its purpose is to assist in the design and implementation of programs to produce high-performing public schools. Squires Elementary was recognized as a "Welcoming School" by The Partnership for Kentucky Schools and one steeped in effective reforms.
Renovations at Squires were completed in September 2016, extending our capacity to 600 students. The two-story plan included 59,840 square feet of renovation space and 19,840 square feet of new construction. The additions include an administrative suite, updated Media Center, enlarged the kitchen and cafeteria, a bus drop-off canopy, and new wings for preschool and eight classrooms. The changes also featured a new roof, windows/doors, finishes, energy efficient HVAC system, LED lighting, upgraded technology, new restrooms, and an enlarged gym with new equipment.
Our schools are closed Sept. 30 through Oct. 4. Students return to class on Monday, Oct. 7.
